A recognized expert on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, Gregory has over fifteen years of experience as an investment research analyst working with investors and companies to identify and address key ESG risks and opportunities.
Prior to joining Joele Frank in 2019, Gregory was the Index Research – Senior ESG Analyst at J.P. Morgan where he led development of its fixed income ESG indices, as well as promoting cross-Research collaboration on advancing ESG integration. Before J.P. Morgan, he was a Senior ESG Analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence in London and New York where he was voted a top-rated ESG analyst. He has also held senior positions at the Global Reporting Initiative in Amsterdam, Trucost in London and Merrill Lynch in New York. His areas of expertise include:
ESG Investment Research
He has significant experience analyzing ESG topics quantitatively and qualitatively across sectors, and identifying company ESG performance and positioning as a research analyst at J.P. Morgan, Bloomberg Intelligence and Trucost. He has published across a range of ESG issues, including on low-carbon transition, green bonds, water scarcity, gender diversity, worker safety, Asia governance reforms, and executive pay. Working closely with investors and companies, he has a direct understanding of the key sustainability issues and their impacts on financial returns and reputation.
ESG Investor Relations and Shareholder Engagement
He has extensive experience with how investors assess corporate ESG performance, and how that directly impacts bond- and share-holding and proxy voting. Further, he understands how the rapidly growing importance of ESG to capital markets is evolving, along with the demand and burdens it places on companies.
Gregory was voted the #1 ranked Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) analyst for 2017 in the Independent Research in Responsible Investment (IRRI) Survey by asset managers, and placed Top 3 for the years 2014-16.
Gregory has served on a number of ESG-advisory groups including for the Emerging Markets Investor Alliance, Global Initiative for Sustainability Ratings, and the U.K. Sustainable Investment Forum. He is an adjunct professor at Vaughn College where he teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in Environmental Management. He is a regular speaker on ESG topics at investor and corporate conferences, and commentator in television and international media.
He received an MSc in Environmental Policy from the London School of Economics and a BA in Economics from Cornell University.
